“My practice addresses a wide range of business and real property matters. Whether I am drafting transaction documents, assisting with complex negotiations, or helping resolve difficult business dilemmas, I strive to achieve optimal business outcomes for my clients.”
Thomas Del Monte provides services to clients covering virtually all standard business law matters, including business sales, corporate structure and governance, ownership and buy-sell agreements, debt and equity financings, securities law, equity compensation, IP strategy, contract drafting and negotiation, and real property transactions.
In addition to general business law, Thomas has extensive renewable energy experience, beginning in law school, with policy work at the Energy Policy Initiatives Center, an externship with the CPUC, and founding the San Diego Journal of Climate and Energy Law. After law school and while finishing his MBA, Thomas founded a biomass-to-energy and biochar company, Interra Energy, which he ran for several years in leadership, legal, and engineering roles. Thomas continued his energy work as general counsel and VP of project development for Phoenix Energy, where he negotiated developer agreements, secured power purchase agreements, pursued and captured available federal and state incentives, raised financings, acquired land, led permitting and regulatory compliance, etc. While he eventually pulled back from the renewable energy industry to focus his law practice on helping all types of businesses, Thomas’s clients find that his formal training in business management and real-world business experience add valuable perspective to his legal counsel.
Thomas is a native of Santa Rosa and received his undergraduate in Legal Studies and Philosophy from UC Santa Cruz. He then received his JD from the University of San Diego School of Law and his MBA from the UC San Diego Rady School of Management. He and his family enjoy outdoor activities and community involvement.
Thomas is a member of the California State Bar and Sonoma County Bar Association.
