Celebrating Greg Spaulding’s Selection as a Recipient of the Sonoma County Bar Association Careers of Distinction Award – August 29, 2024

The attorneys and staff of Spaulding McCullough & Tansil LLP are delighted to announce that Gregory G. Spaulding has been selected to receive the Sonoma County Bar Association Careers of Distinction Award. It is an award that celebrates excellence in a legal career. For this award, “distinction” is a career that has had great impact and significance. Receiving the COD award is similar to being inducted to the Sonoma County legal community’s “Hall of Fame.”

What makes Greg’s career one of distinction is rooted in who he is as a person. Greg has great insight into people and great compassion for humanity. These qualities have been evident throughout his life and not just his legal career. Stated simply, Greg has led a life dedicated to treating people well and doing good for people.

Outside of the courtroom, Greg has dedicated his life to volunteering where he could have the largest impact. Most of these organizations direct their efforts to those who are disadvantaged or otherwise in need. The Northern California Center for Well Being, the Disability Services and Legal Center, Redwood Empire Food Bank, United Way, Rebuilding Together, and others all exemplify Greg’s people-centered approach to life. For Greg, his career dedicated to the law also required a continuous dedication to the people who surround him.

Greg has also unequivocally been a primary impetus to establishing our firm’s focus and dedication to its people – both attorneys and staff. Crucial to this goal has been creating a work environment that is supportive and fun. And because we know that “all work” is never good for a person’s spirit, Greg has encouraged each person to love and enjoy their family, friends and community. None of this is core to the practice of law. It is core to Greg and, with Greg’s leadership, it has been core to everyone at SMT through the years.

A career of distinction is one that is filled with success. Success of a legal career can be measured in many different ways but, by any measure, Greg has been a great lawyer. An easy metric is that Greg, as a trial lawyer, never lost a trial. Another easy metric is the clients who have trusted Greg for legal counsel not just for years, but for decades. A more intriguing measure is how often, at the end of a legal matter, opposing counsel had come to call Greg a friend. Or, maybe, it is simply because Greg is smart and insightful and able to quickly recognize what is important in a legal dispute. It is why so many people have sought Greg’s counsel.

Greg’s is recognized as an esteemed member of our legal community. He is known for his love and compassion for his fellow humans. Greg has made our legal community better, he has improved the lives of the people that he has touched, and his legal career is emblematic of a career of distinction.
